Does Autism Qualify for Medical Marijuana in Ohio?
Although Autism Spectrum Disorder was not originally a qualifying condition under Ohio's Medical Marijuana Program, that may soon change thanks to a recommendation by the State Medical Board.
The Medical Board is tasked with reviewing petitions for new qualifying conditions once a year, and this year's review process might result in medical marijuana becoming available to patients suffering from autism. In May, the subcommittee of the Medical Board tasked with reviewing new conditions rejected Depression, Insomnia, and Opioid Abuse Disorder, but they did recommend approval for Anxiety and Autism. Ultimately, neither Anxiety nor Autism were added from last year's petition period.
