Medical Marijuana Is Legal in Ohio

With overwhelming evidence supporting medical marijuana's potential to improve the qualify of life for Ohio residents, state lawmakers passed House Bill 523 in the summer of 2016. The passage of this law made medical marijuana legal everywhere across the great State of Ohio!

Who is eligible for an Ohio Medical Marijuana Card?

  • Individuals 18 years of age or older

    • Patients under 18 years of age must assign a caregiver who is at least 21 years of age.

  • Have a current diagnosis of a qualifying condition (see below)

  • Be an Ohio resident with proof of residency

  • Meet with a Certified Ohio Marijuana Doctor

What Conditions Qualify for a Medical Marijuana Card in Ohio?

The Ohio Medical Board has approved the use of medical marijuana to help treat and alleviate the symptoms associated with a variety of medical conditions and ailments. In total, there are currently 22 conditions eligible for treatment with medical marijuana, but there is the possibility of new conditions being added in the future. Every year, there is a petition period to request the addition of new qualifying medical conditions.

​​What Is the Process To Be Approved for an Ohio Marijuana Card?

Assuming the doctor is able to confirm your qualifying condition, you'll then be registered with the state of Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the doctor will enter your recommendation following your appointment. You will receive an email where you will submit a $50 registration fee to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. After your submission, you will login to your account in the Patient Registry and will be able to download your official Ohio medical marijuana card!
