New Ohio Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Are Open

Ohio’s medical marijuana landscape continues to grow in 2025, with several major players expanding their footprint across the state. While recreational marijuana has officially launched, not all dispensaries are licensed for adult-use sales, making medical marijuana cards more important than ever for patients who want full access to Ohio’s marijuana offerings.

TerrAscend Enters Ohio With Major Acquisition

Multistate operator (MSO) TerrAscend Corp. has officially entered the Ohio market by acquiring Ratio Cannabis in Goshen Township, a suburb of Cincinnati. The $10.3 million deal gives TerrAscend its first foothold in the Buckeye State, making Ohio the sixth state in which the company operates.

This marks a strategic move by TerrAscend as they work toward Ohio’s eight-dispensary ownership limit. Executive Chair Jason Wild noted that Ohio has “long been a priority,” and that this is just the beginning of more aggressive expansion plans.

With a growing national footprint, 39 dispensaries across six states and Canada, TerrAscend is clearly betting on Ohio’s potential, especially as the recreational market matures and demand for medical-grade products continues.

Trulieve Adds New Dispensary in Lorain

Trulieve, one of the largest cannabis operators in the country, recently opened a new location in Lorain, Ohio. Known for its consistent patient-first approach, Trulieve’s arrival in Lorain is a boost for patients in the area who have previously had to travel to access medical marijuana.

The new dispensary offers a full suite of products, from flower and vape cartridges to tinctures and topicals, all of which are third-party tested and compliant with Ohio’s strict safety standards. Trulieve’s presence also means patients will have access to exclusive strains, educational support, and loyalty programs unique to the brand.

This opening marks yet another step in Trulieve’s broader Ohio expansion, which is focused on underserved markets and improving access for patients across the state.

CuraLeaf Expands to Lima

National cannabis brand CuraLeaf has also made headlines in Ohio with the recent opening of its Lima dispensary. Known for offering a wide variety of condition-specific products, CuraLeaf’s entry into the Lima market brings high-quality medical cannabis to a region previously lacking convenient options.

The dispensary is expected to serve thousands of patients in northwest Ohio and will feature popular product lines tailored for relief from chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, and more. With its patient education programs, dedicated staff, and modern retail experience, CuraLeaf continues to raise the standard for what Ohio medical marijuana patients can expect.

Cleveland’s First Drive-Thru Dispensary Approved

Cleveland is set to welcome its first drive-thru cannabis dispensary at Steelyard Commons. Story Cannabis, a Phoenix-based operator, received final design approval for the dual-use facility, which will serve both medical and recreational customers. The 2,667-square-foot building will feature 35 parking spaces and a drive-thru lane exclusively for online order pick-ups.

Located at 3270 Steelyard Drive, this will be Story’s sixth location in Ohio and its second in the Cleveland area, following its Brookpark Road opening earlier this year. While it’s Cleveland’s first, the county’s first drive-thru dispensary opened last August in South Euclid.

Why Medical Marijuana Cards Still Matter

As recreational marijuana sales slowly roll out across Ohio, many are asking whether a medical marijuana card is still necessary. The short answer is yes, more than ever. Medical cardholders are exempt from the state’s 10% excise tax on recreational products, making regular purchases more affordable. Patients also benefit from higher purchase and possession limits based on their physician’s recommendations, which can be crucial for managing chronic conditions effectively.

Access is another major advantage. Many of the newly opened dispensaries, including those by TerrAscend, Trulieve, and CuraLeaf, are currently medical-only. Without a valid medical card, you won’t be able to shop at those locations. On top of that, medical patients enjoy exclusive discounts, loyalty perks, and shorter wait times, making each visit more convenient and cost-effective.

Ohio’s medical marijuana program continues to expand, bringing better access and more options to patients statewide. If you're already a patient or thinking about becoming one, now is the ideal time to secure your medical marijuana card. It’s the most reliable way to ensure consistent access to high-quality cannabis products and personalized care designed with your health in mind.
