We all know the beloved staple. . . the cannabis brownie. This is the classic version of edibles that most people think of. A cult film back in the 1960’s called “I Love You, Alice B. Toklas” helped make brownie edibles at the top of everyone’s list and a cultural staple to this day.
Last week, I shared with you a recipe for making your own cannabis-infused butter at home in your own kitchen. Today, I am going to help you use that recipe in order to make these awesome brownies!
At Ohio Marijuana Card, we not only want to provide you with your medical marijuana card but we also want to give you insights on how to consume medical marijuana in different ways. Edibles are one of the most popular formats so making edible brownies at home can be something you add to your repertoire!
Cannabis Brownies
Ingredients for the brownies:
½ cup of unsalted butter & cannabutter
This ratio is up to you based on your personal preference. It is best to use ¼ cup of unsalted butter and a ¼ cup of a medium strength cannabutter.
3 oz. of unsweetened chocolate
Use a bar and chop it into pieces that will come out to about ½ a cup.
¾ cup of all purpose flour
1 tsp. of baking powder
¼ tsp. of salt
½ cup of sugar
½ cup of brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. of vanilla extract
½ cup of semisweet chocolate chips
Ingredients for the frosting:
6 tbs. of unsalted, softened butter
¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
⅛ tsp. of salt
1 ¼ cup of powdered sugar
½ tsp. of vanilla extract
3-5 tbs. of milk or a milk alternative
Instructions for the brownies:
Start by preheating your oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
While the oven is heating, lightly grease an 8 by 8 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
Melt the chopped chocolate and the butter in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir to make sure the chocolate is melted and does not burn. Once it is melted, let sit until it is cooled down a bit.
In another bowl, mix flour, salt and baking powder together and set to the side.
Add the sugar and brown sugar into the melted chocolate mix and whisk. Then add eggs and vanilla extract.
Once this is mixed add the flour mixture and combine.
Fold in the chocolate chips into the mix.
Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 25-35 minutes.
You can make sure it is cooked by inserting a toothpick or a knife into the center and seeing if it comes out mostly clean.
Once they are cooked fully, remove them from the oven and let cool before removing them from the pan completely.
Instructions for the frosting:
With a mixer, add butter, cocoa powder and salt to a medium sized bowl and mix until light and fluffy.
Add the powdered sugar to the bowl and mix.
Add vanilla and milk.
Start with 3 tbs. and then add up to 5 tbs. to get the texture right. It should be thin enough to spend but not runny.
Once the brownies are cool, add the frosting evenly over the brownies.
Enjoy!
Things to keep in mind
Remember to keep in mind that when making your own edible brownies at home, the dosage can vary. The best thing for you to do is to start low and slow. We suggest you start with a very small amount, wait at least an hour to see how you feel. If the effect is not strong enough for you it is best to wait until the next day to try a little more and repeat the process until you find the perfect dose for you.
Don’t worry about your brownies going bad. You can store them in the freezer so you can have your edibles at any time in the future!
