The Entourage Effect

THC and CBD are the most popular and well-researched phytocannabinoids in the marijuana world. They can be consumed separately or together in a variety of different ways. Lets begin by going over some beginner vocab if you are not a cannabis connoisseur...

Tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC) is the compound in cannabis that results in euphoric effects

Cannabidiol (or CBD) is the non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis that is known to diminish many of the psychoactive affects brought on when consuming too much THC.

Many patients who are new to the medical marijuana program, or know little information about marijuana in general often times think that no matter how you choose to use the plant, you're going to feel "high" or get that "intoxicated" feeling. This is not necessarily true, and CBD makes it possible to use cannabis for several medical conditions without having to feel "intoxicated" or "too high to function"when its combined with THC. This is known as the entourage effect.

Several qualifying conditions have been researched when discussing the benefits brought on by this power duo of CBD and THC. Research shows that patients experience greater benefits and fewer side effects when they purchase their medical cannabis rich in both THC and CBD. In fact, those products that contain additional cannabis compounds may offer further benefits.

There are several different ways to consume the combination to receive these heightened benefits of the entourage effect.

Flower, or "bud" is your best bet for receiving the most naturally-occurring cannabis compounds. Users will be able reap the most benefits from the blend of terpenes, cannabinoids, and other nutrients found within the plant when consumed in the flower form.

You can always opt for edibles, vape pens, and tinctures (which typically contain THC or CBD monotherapy, meaning that these compounds have been separated from other compounds). However, some of these products will contain both CBD and THC, likely resulting in reduced side effects.

***If you are interested in trying an edible with equal parts THC to CBD, you might consider asking your bud tender about the Wana Strawberry Lemonade Gummies! This is a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC that will deliver the psychoactive effects of THC all while promoting relaxation and tranquility and not give you a "heavy" high feeling.
