Since 2016, medical cannabis has been legal in the state of Ohio. The medical marijuana program progressed over the years, allowing more leniency overall and adding new forms of marijuana to dispensary menus.
New qualifying conditions have also been added over the years, and there are now 26 conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana in Ohio. Here is the updated list:
Including but not limited to:
Chronic Migraines
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
With all of the changes to the program, it may be hard to keep track of what is allowed and what is prohibited. Here is a list of every form of medical marijuana you can purchase in Ohio:
Tinctures
Tinctures are usually alcohol-based extracts of marijuana that you can take orally or mix with a food or drink.
Edibles
Tasty marijuana edibles come in quite a variety, from cookies to gummies to drinks. They are infused with cannabis and can be added to butter in your favorite recipes for an extra bit of relief.
Oils
Marijuana oils are made by extracting cannabinoids from a marijuana plant and mixing it with a solvent. They are great for localized pain relief.
Concentrates
Sometimes referred to as wax cartridges, concentrates are vaporized and inhaled using a vaping device. They come in a wide variety of flavors and strains for your pleasure! They are also easier on your lungs than smoking marijuana flower.
Topicals
Topicals also come in many different forms. They are cannabis-infused creams or lotions to apply directly to your skin for quick relief. You can also make your own!
THC Levels
In each state with a medical marijuana program, there are also laws about the levels of THC allowed in medical marijuana products. In Ohio, the highest level of THC content is 35%, however, extracts can contain up to 70% THC.
The higher the THC level, the more the psychoactive effects you will experience. So, if you don’t want to feel “high”, try a strain with less THC content.
Growing Marijuana
Currently, patients cannot grow their own marijuana in the state of Ohio. Many other programs have implemented the allowance of patient cultivation, so we hope that Ohio will do the same soon!
