In continuation of our coverage of the adverse effects being reported as a result of black market THC vape cartridges and other e-cigarette products, Laura Hancock of Cleveland.com last week reported that some of the licensed cannabis processors in Ohio have decided to increase the transparency of their concentrated vape cartridge ingredients in response to the outbreak of hazardous black market products.
Thus far, three operational cannabis processors - Firelands Scientific, Standard Wellness and Buckeye Relief - have pledged to disclose ingredients for their concentrated vape cartridges "to help patients feel confident that their products are safe." Further, Calyx Peak, Greenleaf Therapeutics and Pure Ohio Wellness have also committed to joining this pledge once their processed products become available for the first time.
This is an admirable initiative put forward by the six processors that have come together to disclose their unique information, as ingredients and trade secrets are often tightly guarded within the budding (pun intended) and rather competitive cannabis industry. Additionally, it is important to remember that none of the adverse sicknesses or deaths reported to this point have featured a single product within Ohio's medical cannabis industry as products are rigorously tested by a state-licensed, third-party testing laboratory.
All products in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program must be sent to a state-licensed testing lab to ensure that products are free of microbials, pesticides, and other hazardous materials to ensure the quality of products. Additionally, the testing labs are responsible for identifying the potency of each product to ensure accuracy.
We applaud the efforts of these six processors to take such an initiative that, for them, likely means more work, more costs, and higher scrutiny, and I would hope that the remaining 34 processors in Ohio will follow the lead of these first six! There are currently only 11 processors operating, with 7 processors with products available in Ohio dispensaries.
Currently, only four processors in Ohio are produced concentrated vape cartridges:
• Standard Wellness
• Firelands Scientific
• Buckeye Relief
• Cure Ohio
If you are an Ohioan suffering from one of these 21 medical conditions you may be eligible to treat your ailment with medical marijuana, which includes both THC and CBD products.
