What Are Processed Cannabis Products?

Updated: Aug 26, 2021

While many patients are already familiar with cannabis in the form of flower, not all patients may be familiar with processed products that are extracted from cannabis. In its most general sense, processed cannabis products refer to products that have been created using extraction methods, in which raw cannabis material is processed into other usable forms. The processed products can range from edibles to concentrates, to tinctures and topical applications, among others.

Processed cannabis products are the ideal solution for those patients that wish to avoid vaporizing the raw flower material, allowing for other forms of administration. Furthermore, processed products can often allow patients discrete administration, regular control over the dose, and with some products longer duration of relief.

Let's take a look at some of the products currently available in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, and the processors creating these products.

Processed Cannabis Products
There are a number of different processed cannabis products available in Ohio dispensaries

What Processed Cannabis Products Are Available in Ohio?

Since the first sale of medical cannabis in January of this year, Ohio's medical marijuana program has expanded to include 45 dispensaries selling medical cannabis products, 18 cultivators growing medical cannabis, and 12 processors creating processed cannabis products.

Currently, the following products have become available in dispensaries across Ohio:

  1. Tinctures, available in THC-dominant, CBD-dominant, and 1:1 CBD/THC options

  2. Edibles, available in THC-dominant, CBD-dominant, and 1:1 CBD/THC options. Current forms of edibles include gummies, lozenges, edible oil, drops, milk & dark chocolates, caramels, peppermints, and, most recently, supplemental capsules
